Parks and Open Space

Situated between the Kickemuit and Palmer (Warren) Rivers, the Town of Warren boasts natural resources that are appreciated by any outdoor enthusiast.  The sheltered waters that surround Warren's historic waterfront are ideal for boating, fishing or kayaking--providing easy access to Narragansett Bay.  The following listing details Warren's Parks and accessible Open Space:

Touisset Marsh Wildlife Refuge
This Audubon Society of Rhode Island (ASRI) Preserve along the Kickemuit River offers a mix of habitats, including woods, swamp and salt marsh.  Bird nesting boxes dot the site and a trail leads from the Touisset Fire Station through the fields to the river.
Visit The Audubon Society of Rhode Island's site for a trail map and contact information.

The Meadows
Situated along the newly completed Warren Bike Path, the Meadows consists of 18 acres owned by the Town, with about 4 acres of flat upland, perfectly for throwing a frisbee or relaxing along a view of the Mt. Hope Bay.  The site is home to an active Osprey Nest.

Palmer Avenue Marsh
A good shoreside spot for bird watching or fishing, this Warren Land Trust property is located along the Warren River.

Heritage Park
This 66 acre municipal park abuts the Kickemuit Reservoir and includes a freshwater marsh, fields and forest.  This site is great for walking and cross-country skiing.

Jacob's Point
A prime spot for bird watching and picnicing, this Warren Land Trust property borders the Warren River.  A path leads to the water from the East Bay Bike Path.

Jamiel's Park
This municipal park has a baseball field and basketball courts.  Parking is available.  Please note: the site is currently in redevelopment.

Burr's Hill Park
This park offers baseball, basketball and tennis with a nice view of the water.  Parking is restricted to residents in the summertime.

Nunes Farm Conservation Area
Accessed from New Industrial Way, this Town owned wetland extends to the Palmer River.  Three parking spaces are provided.  Be prepared for soggy terrain.

Tom's Island
This Warren Land Trust island on the Palmer River is an ideal spot for kayakers to stop for a picnic.  It is accessible only by water, and has no docking facilities.

Warren Recreation Park
This park has ball fields, a playground and an event pavillion.  Parking is on the street.
